Contingent Budget Impact

Dear Parent/Guardian:
As you know, the Board of Education adopted 2008-2009 budget was defeated on May 20th by two votes. At a special meeting on May 28th, the Board of Education adopted a contingency budget totaling $27,380,021 resulting in just under $53,000 in spending cuts from the original budget proposal.
The purpose of this letter is to provide you with information on the contingency budget that may impact you and your child(ren) during the summer months and during the 2008-2009 school year.

Two Middle School Students Qualify to Compete at the World's Largest Junior High Rodeo

Garrett Fernandez and Jacob Rounds have earned a position on the Pennsylvania Wrangler Junior High rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Gallup, New Mexico from June 30th thru July 5th to compete at the 4th Annual Wrangler Junior High Finals Rodeo (WJHFR). Featuring more than 1000 contestants from 47 states, Canadian provinces and Australia, the WJHFR is the world's largest junior high rodeo. The contestants will be competing for $75,000 in prizes and $50,000 in college scholarships. Congratulations Garrett and Jacob.
The High School Band and Choir recently participated in the North American Music Festival

The High School Band and Choir recently participated in the North American Music Festival held in Cleveland, Ohio from May 15-18. While there, both the band and choir competed against schools from Michigan, Ohio, New Jersey and New York. The Concert Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Maureen Mikucki received an Excellent Rating for their performance. The Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Michael Calvello received a Superior Rating for their performance.

Broadalbin-Perth budget newsletters arrive late due to routing error at post office

Because of a post-office routing error, about 1,000-1,500 households within the Broadalbin-Perth Central School District received a newsletter with details about the district’s proposed school budget on Thursday and Friday – two to three days after the budget vote on Tuesday, May 20.

New School Lunch System

Primary School Student Wins

Casey Friedlander was announced as a winner in the Animal Protective Foundation and Mohawk Hudson Humane Society's Be Kind to Animals Poster and Essay Contest. Casey's entry was chosen from over a thousand entries from all over upstate New York. Casey, a 3rd grade student in Mrs. Kaczor's classroom, will be honored at a reception at Schenectady County Community College.
Odyssey of the Mind Team Advances to World Finals

A team of students from the Broadalbin-Perth Intermediate School is advancing to the World Finals of the Odyssey of the Mind Competition. The team is made up of six fourth graders.

Congratulations to Ben Schilling and Adam Wolfe for winning the 1st place Allport Award at the Syracuse University Mayfest Poster Competition.
These students are members of Mr. Jeff Jennings class--Syracuse University Project Advance Sociology. Special thanks also goes to Mrs.
Hibbitts for helping with their statistical research.

Congratulations to Rhiannon LaCross for winning the Miss Central Region 2008 Scholarship Pageant. This pageant qualifies Rhiannon to compete in the Miss New York State Pageant in July.
