GeocachingOn Thursday, May 20th, the Middle School students in Mrs. Sengenberger’s class had the opportunity to learn about geocaching. Geocaching is an outdoor activity in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver to hide and seek containers called "geocaches" anywhere in the world. The students were introduced to the high-tech, handheld GPS units and were taught how to navigate them by learning the difference between latitude & longitude and the role satellites play. The lesson concluded with a scavenger hunt were the students found prizes and letters that they had to unscramble when all ten clues were found.

The Adirondack A's Model A Ford Club started a youth program in June 2009 when they purchased a Model A rolling chassis (1st picture below). They teamed up with the Saratoga Auto Museum which provided a place to hold the work sessions with the youth team. There are 14 young people in this program with their ages ranging from 11 to 16.

Middle School student Dakota Holt was the youngest member of the team but had the most experience. Dakota works with his father Jeff, a longtime competitor at the Fonda Speedway. "I like this because it's a lot like working on race cars, except we're just putting together without taking it apart all the time like when we were doing weekly maintenance on my dad's car."

"I love building things and I've been working on bolting the chassis back together. I want to work on the motor next. I've made a bunch of new friends already and it's good training, because I want to be an engineer when I grow up."
